Preventing self-fertilization: Insights from Ziziphus species

نویسندگان

چکیده

The fitness of self-progeny individuals is inferior to that their outcrossed counterparts, resulting in a reduction plant population’s ability survive and reproduce. To prevent self‐fertilization, angiosperms with hermaphrodite flowers may exploit variety mechanisms, including synchronous dichogamy self-incompatibility. Synchronous involves two flowering morphs, strict within-morph synchronization, thereby preventing not only autogamy geitonogamy but also intra-morph mating. Self-fertilization prevented by self-incompatibility, genetic mechanism allows the identification rejection “self” pollen, both geitonogamy. Here, I seek provide perspective Ziziphus species exhibiting (i.e., “Early” morph open morning “Late” afternoon) protandrous pollen dispersal before stigma becomes receptive)

Evolutionary pathways to self-fertilization in a tristylous plant species.

Evolutionary transitions from outcrossing to selfing occur commonly in heterostylous genera. The morphological polymorphisms that characterize heterostyly provide opportunities for different pathways for selfing to evolve. Here, we investigate the origins and pathways by which selfing has evolved in tristylous Eichhornia paniculata by providing new evidence based on morphology, DNA sequences an...

Origins of Knowledge: Insights from Precocial Species

Behavioral responses are influenced by knowledge acquired during the lifetime of an individual and by predispositions transmitted across generations. Establishing the origin of knowledge and the role of the unlearned component is a challenging task, given that both learned and unlearned knowledge can orient perception, learning, and the encoding of environmental features since the first stages ...

Ecological and evolutionary insights from species invasions.

Species invasions provide numerous unplanned and frequently, but imperfectly, replicated experiments that can be used to better understand the natural world. Classic studies by Darwin, Grinnell, Elton and others on these species-invasion experiments provided invaluable insights for ecology and evolutionary biology. Recent studies of invasions have resulted in additional insights, six of which w...

Low-cost in vitro fertilization: current insights

Despite the development of in vitro fertilization (IVF) more than 30 years ago, the cost of treatment remains high. Furthermore, over the years, more sophisticated technologies and expensive medications have been introduced, making IVF increasingly inaccessible despite the increasing need. Globally, the option to undergo IVF is only available to a privileged few. In recent years, there has been...

Yields, phenolic profiles and antioxidant activities of Ziziphus jujube Mill. in response to different fertilization treatments.

Increasing demand for more jujube (Ziziphus jujube Mill.) production requires understanding the specific fertilization needs of jujube trees. This study was conducted to compare fruit yields, phenolic profiles and antioxidant activity of jujube in response to different fertilizers. Application of organic fertilizer appeared to enhance the phenolics and antioxidant activity accumulation of jujub...
